The Wall Street Journal and SOX

If there was ever a newspaper that published the most anti-SOX editorials it was the WSJ.  So, with the Financial Times having earlier this week conceded the advantages of SOX, we note with sotto voce surrender by the Wall Street Journal.  The Journal today published an editorial (admittedly one written by a guest contributor, Thomas Healey, a retired partner from Goldman and a former assistant secretary in Treasury under Reagan) that does the same.  The editorial, titled Sarbox Was the Right Medicine, goes through the many points that have been made over and over by this Blog on the benefits of SOX and concludes the following:

  • "As Sabanes-Oxley prepares to market its fifth anniversary, there's only one valid conclusion to draw.  This milestone in responsible corporate governance and accountability has more than fulfilled its mission to the public."

We welcome the Wall Street Journal as another prosox periodical.
