SEC and Confirmation of the Vacant Seats on the Commission

Senator Dodd has indicated a desire to move forward on the three open slots on the SEC.  President Bush has nominated two democrats (Elisse Walter and Luis Aguilar) and one republican (Troy Paredes).  Despite recommendations from former Chairman Levitt that the nominations be delayed after the presidential elections, Senator Dodd indicated a need for expediency:  ``I want to get people in place and start making decisions. Too much is at stake with this housing mortgage crisis, the economic crisis."

I think it's EXPEDITION for which a need may be indicated, not EXPEDIENCY. Are you an educator?

Fred:

I am an educator although English grammar is not something where I claim expertise. Having said that, I disagree with your comment. Poor "expediency" gets no respect. Take a look here for another view:

I concur in the view that expedience has its place, and thank you for the link and its "other view." But I maintain that what Senator Dodd is seeking is simple speed, and not a zigzag or corner-cutting implied by "expedient."
